Welcome to the 2008 Golf Season!

Take a deep breath in... Do you smell that? Yes, spring is in the air, and with it comes the start of a new golf season. I'm sure you all are as tired of winter and as excited to get back out on the course as I am.

First of all, I want to welcome you all back for the 2008 season. I'd like to extend a special welcome to our new members. We look forward to meeting you and encourage you to take part in our tournaments and other special member events throughout the season.

If you have not already done so, please stop by the Pro Shop to pick up your 2008 bag tags and member information packages. To stay informed about golf course news, please visit our web site and, of course, read your monthly newsletters. And watch for a completely redesigned web site, coming soon.

Finally, whether you have a question, concern or comment, I welcome your input, so feel free to email me any time. I hope you have a fabulous start to your golf season... as soon as the snow finishes clearing out and the course dries up.

Sincerely,

Tim Ertel, Manager

I am sure we are all looking for the nice spring weather after this very long winter.

There will be just a few changes on the golf course this year. First, we are going to implement the 3 flag system. We will be using red=front, white=middle and blue=back. This will help our members and guests in showing where the pin placements are on the greens. Secondly, as I write this, all the contracts are being finalized so we can proceed with a new pond construction. This a storm water management pond for the new sub-division south of hole #2. This pond will be constructed on the left side of #1 fairway, wrapping behind #8 green. We feel this pond will greatly enhance the playability of our golf course and the best part is, at no cost to the golf club.

We are hoping when the snow clears and we can see the turf we have minimal turf loss. If you have snow cover for more than 60 days it is a perfect environment for snow mould diseases to form on greens. This can also lead to ice cover on greens. Any amount of ice cover for an extended period of time can lead to ice desiccation which can lead to turf loss. Lets hope for the best.

Looking forward to an excellent summer of golf. Please remember to fix your ball marks, replace divots and rake the traps. It makes the course more enjoyable for everyone.

Thanks,

Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent
