STANLEY CUP COMES TO MITCHELL

Staff, members and guests of the  Mitchell Golf & Country Club had a rare opportunity to see the Stanley Cup up close on July 14th, as Jay Heinbuck, Director of Amateur Scouting for the Pittsburgh Penguins, toured around Mitchell showing off the NHL's most coveted trophy.

The glass is more than half full... of sunshine!

Golfers generally check weather forecasts before reserving tee times. More often than not this summer, daily forecasts include at least a chance of rain, even if it's only 40%, resulting in fewer tee time bookings on those days. Many times the rain never materializes, and a perfectly good day for golf passes by with many would-be golfers missing a fabulous opportunity to get another round in.

Please remember when planning your next round, that a 40% chance of rain actually means a 60% chance of SUNSHINE (or at least dry weather)!  Let's think positive and get some rounds in as the season wears on!

In July we had some great weather for the Men's Invitational and also had an exciting time when the Stanley Cup came to Mitchell and made a stop up here at the course. Be sure to check out pictures from our Photo Gallery.

August is always a busy month at our club and this year is no exception. Upcoming Events are listed below. For a full Schedule of Events, see our web site.

Please note that we are continuing our Golf Specials through August, so tell friends and family and get them up to the course to enjoy a round - an economical and entertaining way to enjoy a summer's day.

Have a great month!

Sincerely,

Tim Ertel, Manager

Well the summer is half over and I guess we are still waiting for some consecutive nice days. Again the weather is good for growing turf as evident by the green grass on the golf course.

Nothing too exciting is happening on the course this month. Just trying to keep up with the cutting of the grass. We did remove some dead trees and grinded all the stumps on the golf course.

If you ever wondered why we do some things on the course such as aerating, verti-cutting, topdressing, follow this link for all your answers. From this page, scroll down and select from the various topics listed.

Here's to a better second half of the summer.

Thanks,
Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent

2009 Ladies League

It has been a fairly calm month with great weather on Tuesday nights! A good number of ladies have been making Tuesday night a regular activity.

With some help from Mother Nature, Fred, and his greens crew, the course is in great shape!

We continue to wait for real summer weather but are optimistic that it will arrive. In spite of the weather, Ladies Golf has been very well attended in July.

July 50/50-winners:

Dianne Gaffney

Janet B.

Donna East

Mary Louise LaBerge

The Flag Tournament on Game night had a great number of participants and the winners were as follows:

Flight A: Lori H.

Flight B: Janine

Flight C: Mary Lou Scott

Flight D: Nancy Hazeleger

Door prize winner of Tupperware items donated by Jennifer Ehnes

Heather Benneweis

The Ironwood ladies will be joining us for a fun scramble on Aug. 4th. It will be a shotgun scramble at 5:30 with dinner and prizes to follow. There are a number of cash prizes, door prizes and a 50/50 draw. Teams will be determined in advance so registration is required. Please email me if you haven't already signed up.

It's not too late to sign up for the Seaforth invitational event, a nine-hole scramble on August 6th. Please contact me if interested.

The next Game Night is Tuesday the 11th. Watch for details!

The Mitchell Golf and Country Club annual Ladies Scramble tournament is scheduled for Wednesday August 5th and I anticipate that many of our members will be participating in the event. Good luck to all the players!

Cheers!
Mary Louise
