JUNIOR PROGRAM
(Volunteers Needed)

Our Junior Program begins July 7th. We require volunteers - you do not have to be a member or even a golfer to help out. Volunteers are needed weekly and are essential for the Jr. Club Championship August 25th. Please see our website for details.

SEAFORTH COUNTRY CLASSIC

The Seaforth Golf Club presents the Seaforth Country Classic, a professional golf tournament on the Canadian Tour in August  2009.

The event will show-case our rural community to a worldwide audience via the Golf Channel network and CKNX.

This event will be a catalyst in fund raising efforts for the new Gateway Rural Health Research Institute.

Consider playing in the Pro-Am on August 25th. A limited number of spots are available and on sale now.

GOLF JOKE

A young man who was also an avid golfer found himself with a few hours to spare one afternoon. He figured if he hurried and played very fast, he could get in nine holes before he had to head home. Just as he was about to tee off an old gentleman shuffled onto the tee and asked if he could accompany the young man as he was golfing alone. Not being able to say no, he allowed the old gent to join him.

To his surprise the old man played fairly quickly. He didn't hit the ball far, but plodded along consistently and didn't waste much time. Finally, they reached the 9th fairway and the young man found himself with a tough shot. There was a large pine tree right in front of his ball - and directly between his ball and the green.

After several minutes of debating how to hit the shot the old man finally said, "You know, when I was your age I'd hit the ball right over that tree."

With that challenge placed before him, the youngster swung hard, hit the ball up, right smack into the top of the tree trunk and it thudded back on the ground not a foot from where it had originally laid.

The old man offered one more comment, "Of course, when I was your age that pine tree was only three feet tall."

Summer's here (honestly)!

Summer is officially here and we've had a taste of summer weather. As the temperatures really heat up, so too does our schedule. Be sure to check our web site for upcoming events. Here you can find events to participate in and be aware of tee closings so you can work your games in around them.

Just a reminder that our Junior Program begins on July 7th. We are still in need of volunteers to make this program a success. If you or someone you know would like to help out, check out our website for full details. Your generosity in time and effort is appreciated by our staff and the kids!

The Ladies' Invitational was held on June 24th. Check below for results and photos. The Sr. Men's Scramble and Men's Invitational are coming up later this month. See the Upcoming Events section for details. Please note that the Men's Invitational is a 12 noon shotgun start - making the tournament more accessible to out-of-towners.

Our great golf specials have been very well received and so we're extending them through the summer. Take advantage of these terrific deals by bringing non-members out for a round or two.

Enjoy the summer. I look forward to seeing you all on the course!

Sincerely,

Tim Ertel, Manager

Well the golf season is now in full swing and with a couple of timely rains the golf course is lush and green. Most of the winter kill areas that we over-seeded are almost fully recovered.

We are introducing a new ball divot repair tool. They are available in the pro shop now so next time you are in ask for one. Please follow this link for a demonstration on how to use it.

Again with the warmer temperatures, just a reminder to follow cart signs and to use cart paths where provided. Power carts are the biggest contributor to loss and worn out turf.

Thanks,

Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent

2009 Ladies League

It has been a fairly calm month with great weather on Tuesday nights! A good number of ladies have been making Tuesday night a regular activity.

A number of our members competed in the Mitchell Ladies Invitational on June 24th with respectable performances in their flights for Joanne Robertson, Helen Brodhagen, Linda Crowley and Aukje Roe. Congratulations to all our members! For complete tournament results, click here. Be sure to check out the gallery on our web site for photos from the event.

The Captain’s Cup Match Play underway with Ann Eggert taking the first match.

We wrapped up June with an invitation for the Seaforth ladies to play a scramble. Over 55 golfers participated and enjoyed the event. A number of door prizes were kindly donated including a gift basket of Victorian Epicure products donated by Bonnie McKee, cordless telephones from Janine Johnson, Rheo Thompson’s Chocolates and a highly coveted birdhouse made by Rick Johnson.  Yes, he has more but for a price!

Cash prizes went to the low gross winning team of Bonnie McKee, Mary Louise LaBerge and Lori Houze. The most honest team was made up of Lois Fitzgerald, Pam Torrance, Judy Bowman and Seaforth guest Carol Ducharme, also received a bit of spending money. Perhaps a down-payment on lessons?

A mystery score netted Cathy McCord, Ann Eggert, Josie Nyenhuis and visitor Gladys McGregor a bit of cash as well. A sizeable 50/50 pot went back to Seaforth with Jan Hawley. Way to go Jan!

July would be welcome with a splash more summer-like weather.

Respectfully,
Mary Louise LaBerge
