Message from the Manager

Well, in typical Canadian fashion, Mother Nature is delivering us weather as interesting as Boo Weekley's vocabulary. The warm weather has temporarily given way to cooler, wetter conditions. However, after the much needed rain subsides in a few days, the warm weather is sure to return, luring you out of hiding and back to the course for the rest of the season.

May is our first full month of golf, so be sure to check out our schedule of events so you can book tee times accordingly. In addition, we are happy to present our annual Mother's Day brunch again this year. If you are interested in joining us for this popular event, please contact us and reserve your spot in advance.

Those of you who have been out on the course will have noticed that pond construction on the first hole is underway. We appreciate your continued patience while we complete this project. We anticipate that our members and guests will consider the end result a nice addition to the course, providing a new and lasting challenge for golfers of all calibres.

As always, I welcome your questions and comments as they provide opportunities for clarification and improvement, making the Mitchell Golf & Country Club golf experience the best it can be for all of you, our valued members, as well as our numerous guests. See you soon.

Sincerely,

Tim Ertel, Manager

Design of our new web site will be completed later this month. Once complete, we will require a day to test and launch the new site.

To facilitate this, our web site will be unavailable for a short period of time. We hope to minimize any potential inconvenience and will notify you via email a few days in advance of our scheduled launch date to keep you informed.

During this brief hiatus, you can access your Tee-On account by going directly to www.tee-on.com. For all other course-related matters, you can contact us here at the course.

We are very much looking forward to unveiling the new site and appreciate your patience and cooperation for a quick successful site launch.

What a great start to the spring weather! Hopefully it will continue into the summer. The new pond construction is well underway. All construction work should be finished by May 2nd. The restoration of the golf course (sod and seed) will take place the following week, weather permitting. I know it may be difficult but please try to keep off all new sod and seeded areas as much as possible. There will be marking flags all over the golf course indicating newly seeded areas from the grub damage. Last year was the first year we had grubs on the golf course which was directly related to the dry weather of last summer.

Our annual spring aeration of greens will also take place this month. Exact days have not been determined yet but will be posted in the pro shop a few days in advance. Thank you for your patience while we undertake the most important cultural program for our greens.

Unfortunately this nice weather has been good for the golfers but not so great for the turf. The lack of rain has slowed the new growth down so the course is taking longer to recover from the winter. The dam is finally closed and all irrigation broken during pond construction will be fixed this week so we will have irrigation again. This also means that the course washrooms will be open very soon.

If you have any questions pertaining to the golf course or just want to have a look around our maintenance facilities, stop by the maintenance building anytime.

Thanks,

Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent

A new season has started and we are anticipating a very fun-filled season. We would like to welcome everyone back and we are hoping that the new members will join us on Tuesdays for Ladies’ Night.

The Ladies' newsletter, handicap rules as well as captain’s cup sign-up sheet are posted on the bulletin board in the ladies locker room. The pro shop also has copies of the Ladies' newsletter and the handicap rules if you wish to take a copy home.

If you are not golfing or the weather has forced us to cancel the golf portion of our evening we ask that you call the pro shop to let them know if you still intend on joining us for dinner. This will ensure that the kitchen staff has a fairly accurate idea of how many ladies to prepare food for.

If you have any questions feel free to call one of us and we will be happy to answer them.
