It just keeps getting better...
The early start to the spring weather
allowed us to get our golf season
underway March 29th - our earliest
opening on record. The warm weather
obviously helped kick-start golfers'
games in April as we already have three
holes-in-one to report - one on Hole #1!
Be sure to check out
details below.
There are a couple upcoming events that
always assure us that the nice
temperatures are here to stay. First,
our delicious and perennially popular
Mother's Day Brunch is back again
this year. Seating is limited so be sure
to call for reservations if you plan to
join us.
And out on the course, our
Member's Opening Scramble,
scheduled for Saturday, May 15th,
will officially kick off our golf
season. Due to the high level of
interest in this event, I encourage you
to register as soon as possible.
The golf course website is constantly
being updated with information about
upcoming events, special offers and
member news. Please check the website
often for up-to-date information. To get
news to you real-time, we've created
Facebook and
Twitter accounts. Please join and/or
follow us to be the first to get the
low-down on course happenings.
Finally, check out our green fee
specials. Pass
these deals on to friends and family and
bring them out to enjoy one of the
greatest games on earth for a super-low
price! And for you, our members, be sure
to take advantage of the exclusive "Play
18 for 9" pricing at other area
courses.
We look forward to seeing you all here
at the course soon!

What a difference a year makes in the
weather. We've had beautiful spring weather
so far this year and lets hope it continues
well into the summer.
As most of you have noticed we have started
working towards ensuring our long term water
needs are satisfied. We have drilled a well
on the left side of #8 fairway. Since we
have had a lot of questions on the well
I will give the stats of the well. It is an
8 inch drilled well totalling 246 ft. deep
with 172 ft. into the bedrock. A 40 hp motor
will be installed producing approx. 325 gpm.
Yes we hit an excellent water supply. The
next step will be to determine whether we
dig a pond and fill it with this well or
drill another well and feed the irrigation
directly from these 2 wells. More details
will be explained hopefully in next months
newsletter.
Our greens that didn't fair too well over
the winter are starting to show signs of
improvement. Lots of overseeding,
fertilizing, aerating and topdressing is
bringing them along quite well. The warm
weather really helped but the lack of April
showers didn't. Unfortunately we cannot
water them because the dam has not been
closed yet resulting in no water in the
river. If #7 green doesn't start to recover
faster we may have to make a temporary green
for a couple of days to give the new seed a
chance to grow.
It is also that time of year for greens
aerating. This will take place May 12-13.
Thank you for your patience as we undertake
this important cultural practise.
Thank
you,
Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent

Holes in
One
|
An early start to our golf season
has most definitely contributed to
there being 3 holes-in-one being
recorded already.

April 5th |
Helen Brodhagen (MItchell) |
#7 |
150 yards |
3-Wood |
|
April 16th |
Tyler Pauli (Mitchell) |
#7 |
165 yards |

|
April 21st |
Greg Preszcator (Sebringville) |
#1 |
334 yards |
Driver |
Normally we put the holes-in-one on
the sidebar but this warranted a
spot front and centre in the
newsletter. While all holes-in-one
are pretty incredible, Greg
Preszcator's (above) was especially
noteworthy,
as hole-in-ones on holes of this
length (and par-4’s in general) are
quite rare. On April 21, 2010 at
4:20pm, Greg Preszcator teed up his
first shot of the season, on the
first hole (a 334 yard par-4) and
proceeded to hit the ball right into
the hole for an incredible ace.
Greg was 3-under par after his first
hole of the season (an “Albatross”).
Greg’s playing partners that day
were Mitchell G & CC member Mark
Bush and Mark’s brother Steve. Greg
went on to finish his round shooting
a respectable score of 76 not
bad for someone who plays golf 5 to
6 times per year!
This feat was also witnessed by a
group of our junior members who
vacated the first green just in time
to see Greg’s ball go into the hole.
Congratulations on a great start to
the season!

Booking Tee Times
In order to
streamline the check-in process, when
booking a tee time, please provide us with
as much detail as possible, including the
names of the players in your group, the
number of carts required, and whether you
will be playing 9 or 18 holes.
Also, if
you find that you will not require your
tee-time or that you will have fewer players
than originally booked, please notify the
Pro Shop so that we may fill that time with
other golfers. If you have groups of less
than 4 – please let us know as we often have
singles or twosomes looking for games.
Please
check in at the Pro Shop prior to starting
your round. It is important for our business
planning that we track data on rounds
played. Also, for potential emergency
purposes, it is important that we know who
is on the course and approximately where
they are at all times. Thank you for your
cooperation.
For
assistance with on-line booking, please ask
for assistance in the Pro Shop. Thanks for
your cooperation.
