HOLES IN ONE

Congratulations to Richard Thibeault of Stratford who shot a hole in one on #3 from the blue tees with an 8-iron. If this is how his season starts, we can only imagine how it's going to end...

Getting into the swing of things....

Wow! We have seen some fabulous summer-like weather already - mixed, of course, with some cold, rainy weather more reminiscent of late winter. One thing's for sure though - it's only going to get better!

There are a couple upcoming events that always assure us that the nice temperatures are here to stay. First, our delicious and perennially popular Mother's Day Brunch is back again this year. Seating is limited so be sure to call for reservations if you plan to join us.

And out on the course, our Member's Opening Scramble, scheduled for Saturday, May 16th, will officially kick off our golf season. Due to the high level of interest in this event, I encourage you to register as soon as possible.

Many of you have probably heard about the charges against ClubLink for deaths that have been attributed to over-service of alcohol at one of their courses. Although we and all responsible golf clubs have always had a policy regarding appropriate alcohol consumption on our premises, our Board of Directors has recently approved a newly developed Alcohol Policy at their April meeting.  We encourage you to view the policy, as we strive to protect our staff and our liquor license. Your cooperation in this regard is appreciated.

On a lighter note, the Mitchell Golf & Country Club has been nominated for a Business Excellence Award (Hospitality and Tourism) through the Stratford & District Chamber of Commerce. Please read below for full details about this achievement.

We look forward to seeing you all here at the course soon!

Sincerely,,

Tim Ertel, Manager

Finally, some nice spring weather after a very long winter. With the warm rains and higher temperatures the turf has really started to grow and a lot of the winter kill is starting to grow out. Some of the worse areas will be overseeded and some areas sodded.

Our annual spring aeration will also take place this month. The dates are May 18 to May 24 weather permitting. Please check with the pro shop for any changes to this schedule and once again thank you for your patience while we undertake the most important cultural program for our putting greens.

The irrigation system will be up and running shortly meaning the on course bathrooms will soon be opened.

Even though we are just into our golf season, we have noticed a lot of ball marks on the greens. Please follow this link for a video demonstration of the proper way to fix a ball mark. A properly fixed ball mark will heal in one day while an unfixed ball mark can take up to 3 weeks to heal.

Finally if you have any questions pertaining to the maintenance of the golf course, feel free to ask.

Thanks,

Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent

2009 Ladies League

On behalf of our new executive we would like to welcome you to our 2009 season. We want to encourage all of the ladies to join us on Tuesday nights. The Season runs every Tuesday night from April 28th to September 22nd for 22 weeks of golf and ends with our closing event on Sunday September 27th.

Carts will be available for ladies on Tuesdays after 1:00 p.m. at a discounted price of $20.00 for 18 holes.

Cost of our meal will remain at $7.00. Dinner will once again be a continuous serve from 7:30-8:30.

In the event of rain, supper will be served at 6:30. The decision to eat early on days with inclement weather will be made by Mary Louise (Ladies’ golf captain) and Tim by 3:00 p.m. If it is not suitable weather for golf but you are planning to attend for supper, please call the club house so the kitchen has an idea of how many will be there to eat. 519-348-8991

50/50 tickets will be sold at a cost of $2.00 each or three for $5.00 and will be sold in the lounge starting around 6:30 p.m. The draw will be made after dinner.  The monies will be held until the following week if you win and are not present when the draw is made.

The Closing event will be Sunday, September 27, 2009. Please pay Heather Purdy, our treasurer, by June 17th if you are planning to attend. The cost is $40.00 which includes the meal, a grab bag, eligibility for golf prizes, and a trip to the prize table or $25.00 for everything listed above except the prize table. Only meal money can be refunded up to Sept. 1st. After that we will be unable to refund any funds. If you are unable to attend as planned, please designate someone to pick up your prize. Prizes will again be handed out randomly.

Most improved award will be handed out at the closing. To be eligible for this award at least 10 scores need to be entered over the season. If you do not have access to a computer, the pro shop will enter your scores for you. Please use adjusted scoring to keep consistent.

Announcements will be posted on the bulletin board in the Ladies’ locker room.

Birdie and Chip-in boards are in the ladies locker room. If you get a birdie, an eagle, or a chip in on Tuesday nights, record your name, the hole # and the date on the board. At the end of the year, the person with the most birdies and chip-ins will receive a prize. Please make sure you enter the information in a timely manner. A hole-in-one anytime at our course should also be recorded.

There will be a monthly door prize at a cost of $1 per ticket, to be held the last Tuesday of the month. The dates are April 28th, May 25th, June 30th, July 28th, August 25th, and September 22nd.

There will be a monthly golf “game” to be held the 2nd Tuesday of the month at no additional charge. These dates will be May 12th, June 9th, July 14th, August 11th, and September 8th.

We encourage you to bring guests on Tuesday nights. They will not be eligible for any golf prizes but will be eligible for door prizes or 50/50. They must pay green fees and meal costs.

Captains’ cup will be played again this year at no additional cost. This is match play and is based on your handicap. There is a sign up sheet in the Ladies’ locker room. Attached is a copy of the rules. Deadline to sign up is May 26.

If you have any questions or concerns please see one of the executive

Booking Tee Times

In order to streamline the check-in process, when booking a tee time, please provide us with as much detail as possible, including the names of the players in your group, the number of carts required, and whether you will be playing 9 or 18 holes.

Also, if you find that you will not require your tee-time or that you will have fewer players than originally booked, please notify the Pro Shop so that we may fill that time with other golfers.  If you have groups of less than 4 – please let us know as we often have singles or twosomes looking for games.  You never know when Mike Weir, Tiger Woods or Paula Creamer might show up here looking for a game!

For assistance with on-line booking, please ask for assistance in the Pro Shop.  Thanks for your cooperation.
