I often get asked what we do in the winter.
First and foremost is machine maintenance.
We have an equipment inventory worth
hundreds of thousands of dollars. All
equipment gets a complete overhaul. This
includes all filters, oil, bearings, et
cetera, plus the sharpening of all reels.
In addition, golf course accessories,
including blocks and benches, are refinished
or touched up during the winter months. Of
course keeping the roadway, parking lot and
walkways clear of snow by plowing, blowing
and shoveling is an ongoing project.
Over the winter, budgets and plans for the
upcoming season are created and submitted to
the Board of Directors for approval. Members
of our Greens Crew also attend educational
conferences and seminars to stay current on
greens maintenance techniques.
We look forward to seeing all of our members
and guests next spring and here’s hoping for
a short winter.
Thank
you,
Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent

Note from the President
|
The season has come to an end. I
hope everyone had a fun and
enjoyable year of golf. I have
enjoyed my first year as president.
It has been an extremely challenging
year with the changes in the economy
and the golf industry. The future is
going to be a challenge with these
changes that have occurred.
At the club closing I held a draw
and was able to play golf with
everyone in the event. It was a lot
of fun for me as it gave me a chance
to meet and talk to the members I
already knew and the members I had
the chance to meet for the first
time. Hopefully my golf game was
able to help you out in your round.
Hopefully we can try new things in
our club events next year.
Some of you may have heard in the
last couple of months that the board
and the men’s night captain are
looking at the possibility of moving
men’s night from Monday to Thursday.
This decision will not be finalized
until the after the new year and the
new board is in place after the
annual meeting. If you have
questions or concerns about this
please feel free to email me
anytime. I invite you to join us to
discuss this and other issues at the
annual meeting on Monday December
13, 2010 at 7:00 in the banquet
hall.
The annual meeting provides an
opportunity for club members to
contribute to the successful
direction of your golf club by
asking any questions you may have,
voting for new members to serve on
the Board, and especially by letting
your name stand in the election
for Board of Directors.
The Board is made up of twelve (12)
volunteers, all with different
backgrounds, skills and opinions,
who help guide the operations of
this facility. Each year six (6)
members are elected for a two (2)
year term and any member can run for
a position on the Board. Board
meetings are held once a month. If
you would like to put your name
forward to stand for election,
please talk to any Board member
before our Annual General Meeting in
December.
Members whose term is up this year
include:
Randy McCord
Rob Mann Larry
Barker
Scott Tolton
Bert McMann Joel Skelding
This is your opportunity to have a
say in your club so please stay
involved and attend on December
13th. Voting may be done in person
or by proxy. If you are interested
in running for the board please let
Bill Appleby or Tyler Gloor know.
Nominations for the board will be
done the night of the meeting also.
Feel free to forward any questions
or concerns to my email at
rsteinbach@sjmitchell.ca or
contact me at 519-275-7742.
Thanks
Rob Steinbach CGA, President
