Not slowing down...just shifting gears

While golf is pretty much done for the season, lots of other stuff keeps us going through the winter. Check out Fred's Course Update below to read what he and his staff will be up to.

Indoors, we're busy preparing for next year's season and hosting Christmas celebrations and other special events. And throughout November and December, we'll be in the Pro Shop, helping you find great gifts at amazing prices for the golfers on your list. If you're planning to come see us, please call ahead to ensure we'll be there to assist you. See Pro Shop hours below.

Our Annual General Meeting is coming up in December. See the message from the Board of Directors for full details and please plan to attend and to find out about and contribute to plans for the 2010 season.

Finally, please review our 2010 Membership details below and on our web site. Take advantage of our early payment discount - valid until February 1, 2010 - to optimize the value you get out of your membership.

Have a safe and healthy off-season. We look forward to seeing you next spring!

Sincerely,

Tim Ertel, Manager

I often get asked what we do in the winter.  First and foremost is machine maintenance.  We have an equipment inventory worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.  All equipment gets a complete overhaul.  This includes all filters, oil, bearings, et cetera, plus the sharpening of all reels.

In addition, golf course accessories, including blocks and benches, are refinished or touched up during the winter months. Of course keeping the roadway, parking lot and walkways clear of snow by plowing, blowing and shoveling is an ongoing project.

Over the winter, budgets and plans for the upcoming season are created and submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. Members of our Greens Crew also attend educational conferences and seminars to stay current on greens maintenance techniques.

We look forward to seeing all of our members and guests next spring and here’s hoping for a short winter.

Thanks,
Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent

From the Board of Directors

You've likely stashed your clubs away for the winter, but it's not necessarily time to stop thinking about golf. The Board of Directors would like you to join us at our Annual General Meeting on Monday December 14, 2009, in the Banquet Room at the club.

At the meeting you can have input into the successful direction of your golf club  by asking any questions you may have, voting for new members to serve on the Board, and especially by letting your name stand in the election for Board of Directors.

The Board is made up of twelve (12) volunteers, all with different backgrounds, skills and opinions, who help guide the operations of this facility. Each year six (6) members are elected for a two (2) year term and any member can run for a position on the Board. Board meetings are held once a month. If you would like to put your name forward to stand for election, please talk to any Board member before our Annual General Meeting in December.

Members whose term is up this year include:

Sid Creek             Mary Martin                      Rob Steinbach

Jim Houze            Harry Greenwood             John Vandenbussche

This is your opportunity to have a say in your club so please stay involved and attend on December 14th. Voting may be done in person or by proxy.
