GOLF CHEAT

Sitting at a table in the clubhouse after a game, Joe said to a fellow club member, "I'm not about to play golf with Jim Walsh anymore. He cheats."

"Why do you say that?"

"Well, he found his lost ball two feet from the green."

"That's possible."

"Not when I had it in my pocket!"

Message from the Manager

Here we are heading down the home stretch of another fabulous summer. We never seem to get enough of summer but it seems to get enough of us. I guess our Southern Ontario winters make us look forward to the next golf season and make us appreciate it that much more. Hopefully, Mother Nature serves up lots of wonderful weather for the remainder of the golf season.

Speaking of winter, this is the time of year that we start to book our Lounge and Banquet Hall for Christmas parties. Those interested in booking a date for a festive function are urged to book as soon as possible as our available dates fill up quickly. See below for full details.

As for the course, weather permitting, we will be aerating the greens on September 16th & 17th. See Fred's message below for full details.

Have a great September!

Sincerely,

Tim Ertel, Manager

Well it was nice that August finally provided us with some real summer weather. I hope that everyone caught up in their total rounds played.

Through August we still enjoyed great course conditions. We transplanted a total of 72 new trees. Makes a big difference on the back nine. The new rain shelter at 15 tee is almost complete and the old rain shelter at 6 green will be replaced in the near future. Thanks to the volunteer members for undertaking this project.

Its that time of year again for greens aeration. Remember aerating is the most beneficial agronomical procedure for the greens as this relieves compaction and lets oxygen down to the turfgrass roots. This will take place the week of September 15-19, weather permitting. Another fall project we will be undertaking is replacing the overflow pipe from the pond on 16 to the pond at 15 green. This overflow pipe gives us trouble every spring as there is not enough fall from pond to pond. Our work in the near future should mitigate this issue.

Here's to hoping for an extended Indian summer well into the fall.

Thanks,

Fred Schmoelzl, Golf Course Superintendent

The season is already over and hardly feels like it has begun. It has been a great year for golf even though we had more rain than we would have liked. A great time was had by all at the ladies closing tournament. Congratulations to all of those who participated.

We had 27 ladies play in the Captain’s cup. The winner is Theresa Corman and the consolation winner is Judy Dejong. I’m sure that everyone had a great time and hope that more will sign up next year.

The perch dinner was a success. Thanks to the generosity of Bob Bogdon and Scotiabank for the donation of the perch we were able to donate $276 to the Junior division.

As you all know by now I am stepping down as golf captain. My replacement is Mary Louise LaBerge. Remaining on for next year is Heather Purdy as Treasurer and Val Chessell as secretary.

The general meeting is set for April 28th, 2009 at 7 p.m. This will be subject to change if any unforeseeable circumstances arise.

Have a great fall and winter,
Theresa Corman
